Mount Carmel at Home - 03/04/2020
Posted 2020-04-02 10:38:33Welcome to Mount Carmel at Home. These sessions will enable parents to carry out fun and educational home learning activities with their children. We recommend establishing a routine and setting aside a time in day for home learning. It is preferable to do these activities in the morning when children are more alert than towards the end of the day when they can be tired and less cooperative.
Share your child's learning with us by uploading photos and videos to their Learning Journey on Famly, by uploading on Instagram and adding the hashtag #MountCarmelatHome or posting on our Facebook page. Your child's teachers will love to see what you have been up to!

Today’s activities for preschool children

Activity 1 | Ladybird Maths |
What you’ll need |
|
Method | First ask your child to say the large, grey numbers at the top before tracing over them. Give your child the dice to roll and encourage them to count the number of spots. They should then add the same number of spots to the first ladybird. Then ask them to find the corresponding numeral (from the ones they have just traced) and ask them to try writing it in the box underneath the ladybird. |
What did we learn? | Mathematics: Recognising numerals, selecting the correct numeral to represent an amount of objects, record using marks they can interpret and explain. Physical: Show a preference for a dominant hand. |

Activity 2 | Sort it out! |
What you’ll need | A range of toys or objects from around the house (toy cars, cutlery, etc) |
Method | Explain that you are going to sort out these objects. Talk about the words ‘sort’, ‘similarities’ and ‘differences’ and what they mean. Sort things into different groups together. Example: toy cars. First, separate all the big cars from the small cars. Then group into colours, or type of vehicle...anything you can think of! You could extend this activity by sorting and ordering the members of your household, such as tallest to shortest, loudest to quietest etc. |
What did we learn? | Understanding the World: Knows some of the things that make them unique, and can talk about some of the similarities and differences in relation to friends and family Personal Social Emotional Development: Confidence to speak to others about own needs, wants, interests and opinions. |

Activity 3 | Make a bunny mask |
What you’ll need |
|
Method | Allow your child to be creative and decorate their mask as they wish. They may like to add collage materials to make it even better?! When they are finished, cut out their creation (and the eye holes) and if desired mount onto card. Either attach string, elastic or some sort of stick to make the mask usable. Once your child has the mask ready to use can they be a bunny? Ask them what bunnies like to eat and how they move etc. Upload your little bunny to Famly so we can see your creation! |
What did we learn? | Expressive arts and design: Being Imaginative – Beginning to make believe by pretending. Physical Development: Moving and handling – imitates drawing simple shapes such as circles and lines, may be beginning to show a preference for a dominant hand. |
